Last Wednesday the BBC aired 'Italy's Hidden Cities'. It is available in the UK on iPlayer for a while. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0881gly/italys-invisible-cities-1-naples. The entrance tunnel or 'Great Antrum' at Baia is featured, although the so-called Historian expert followed the official line that this must be a steam vent supplying the Roman baths at the entrance. He states that the water temperature at the Styx was about 60º C. when the tunnels were discovered. It wasn't, it was about 30º C. The source of any heat is ridiculously far away to be of any use by the time it reached the surface. There are multiple door frames and lamp niches deep within the tunnels. What are they doing in a steam channel?

I was involved in the film in as much as I met with Harvey Lilley the Producer and Director in London and put him in touch with the local speleological team in Baia. I also supplied in advance 3D computer models of the tunnel to the laser scanning team, one of which is featured on an iPad in the film.

I had about 1/2 hour to try to explain why I thought the place was ritual but their agenda was tying in places connected with the Serino Aqueduct, the Augustan construction which does in fact run through the hill across the Oracle of the Dead entrance a short way in.

The filming was done in one morning and I was reliably informed by two eye witnesses, Ivana Guidone and Peter Knight, who both feature in the film and were in the tunnels escorting the BBC, that Alexander Armstrong, the front man, was spooked by a scorpion at the River Styx and ran for the entrance. He and the historian never ventured up to the sanctuary nor saw any of the other tunnels that might have made them wonder if more was going on than meets the eye. None of them had been inside the tunnel before. The cameraman did venture up to the sanctuary but he too got frightened and refused to go any further.

Research continues. Control of the site has now gone under the wing of the Superintendent of Cuma, formerly it was supervised from Baia Castle nearby. The site of Le Piccole Terme and the entrance is now overgrown with weeds and closed off to the public. CCTV cameras have been installed to deter would-be site-seers, so please do not be tempted to trespass. It is very dangerous inside the tunnels. I am going to update the website very soon with much new information about progress over the last few years.

The Roman bath site at Baia is featured on BBC's Youtube channel, in 3D video, no less. The Great Antrum tunnel is not specifically explored in this clip, but the entrance is visible if you pause the video and mouse around the 3D panorama.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUpviBx5YlE

I have indicated the entrance to the underworld with a red arrow in this picture:
