Hi everyone. I just wanted to let you know that I will be presenting at the Sussex Egyptology Society (SES), in Brighton, on the 30th of January 2010. It would be great to catch up with you if you can make it....

Meetings begin at 2.00 p.m. and end at about 4.30 p.m. Refreshments are available; there is a raffle with a worthwhile Egyptological prize; SES clothing, pens and other goodies are on sale, and visitors are very welcome.

Admission to meetings is free to members; non-members pay £4.00, which is refundable against their subscription if they subsequently join.

Dr Kent Weeks is the honorary President of SES - as was David Rohl previously, and Arcadia's condolences go out to Dr Weeks for the sudden loss of his wife in Luxor this month, Susan Weeks, a distinguished Egyptologist in her own right and the artist of Theban Mapping Project’s artist.

I hope you can join us on the day.

More information can be found here: http://www.egyptology-uk.com/index.htm

Best regards,

Andrew

Sounds great - just one thing - what's the venue? I bet many people are wondering the same...

Thanks Green Faery. You are so right. That is not very clear, is it.

So, the listing confirming my presentation in Brighton from 2:00PM - 4:30 PM on the 30th of January is here:

http://www.egyptology-uk.com/events_venues.htm

And here are directions to the venue, which is at Brighton Hove & Sussex 6th Form College, 205 Dyke Road, Hove, East Sussex, BN3 6EG::

Thank you for asking, and hope to see you there!

Best,

Andrew

A belated update to say that the presentation went very well - 2 hours, over 100 people in attendance - most of which were quite serious, Egyptologist types.

It really does surprise me how little is known within the Egyptology society on the role of the Bee in their society of study. After all, Egypt was known as 'The Land of the Bee' and the King held the title ‘Bee Keeper' and a bee was portrayed in each Kings cartouche, which sort of hints at it's importance!

Great group though, and more open to new ideas and non-conventional concepts than I thought they might be.

More presentations to follow in London in the near future...

Best,

Andrew

Is it a fly...is it a bee...is it a stinging dart....or is it something else entirely!

For those wishing to have an insight ...you could always go to the thread ....."L’effrayant secret de Gérone.... la " Religion des Morts"." Posted over on the Girona section.

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2706&start=25

Here you can read about " la légende des mouches de Saint Narcisse"....albeit in French for the moment, but in the next couple of days it will be published in english as well.

Also on the same thread there's "Des mouches mortuaires chez les Mérovingiens ? Le tombeau de Chilpéric Ier" ...also appearing in english over the next couple of days...so don't despair!
