Thanks Hans, but don't get all excited...it's just what is shown on the old carte postale I posted above, a large circular section filled with collapsed masonry walls within a square enclosure wall ?
It's there for all to see.

What is your idea ?

regards Hans

Hi rain,

I finished Otto Rahn.

Very interesting to read the history of the cathars.

There must be a lot of hidden treasures in our area, from that time when the horrible worm of 300.000 crusaders came from the north.

regards Hans

Wonderful aerial view B.S.
Really good view of the north plateau, showing the oval or circular area under discussion and interesting building remains below the actual church.
The slump area is very visible.

And there's a similar somewhat circular shape on the other side, same size, same strategic position...

Let's mark those with circles and add some lines for sudden height drops, elevation shadows and other structure.
Would a double rampart fortress really be impossible?
There's stone on these slopes alright, but are there enough stone?

Don't forget the circular structure within the circular loop of the eastern approach road.

True, although Im not sure if the eastern part of the "8" we see today at the village entrance was circular in the old times, or if it became circular only after the new round was built... However the eastern part of the "8" is semi-circular.
What's your thoughts on the "8" (seen from above)? It's a very special shape, just like two towers.
